As a General Manager you are responsible for Safety, Quality, Financial, and Operations Management of the Utility Civil Division. Markets Supported include UG T&D, Substation, Offshore Wind and Industrial.  Regional focus will be on the Northeast / Mid Atlantic.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Vice President Electrical and Substation to develop the business unit that will serve the Civil Work of the Utility and Industrial Markets in the Northeast. Including, strategic vision, customer relationships and operational organization
  • Full financial Profit and Loss responsibility for the Utility Civil Business Unit
  • Implement and ensure all facets of: Safety, Quality, Productivity for the business unit
  • Day to day oversight of all operations staff (project managers and estimators) and field teams (GF’s and FM’s)
  • Provide operational and technical guidance to project and field teams
  • Preconstruction responsibilities include oversight of: Pre-job visits, estimates and proposals preparation, and pre-project planning
  • Train Construction Managers, field Supervisors, staff, etc. on administrative process as required
  • Monitor performance metrics for operating unit – production, man-hours, accidents and incidents. Review weekly productivity of crews and adjust as necessary. Develop corrective action plans when required
  • Ensure the safe proper use and application of Company equipment and tooling. Ensure proper materials/equipment is procured for projects
  • Participate in Customer program meetings. Regular customer contact and engagement. Client networking and Business Development
  • Maintain good working relationships with IBEW and Civil locals throughout the Region with regards to hiring, retraining, and termination of craft workers. Assist in Union Negotiations when possible

Education, Skills, Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or similar field is a plus, but not required
  • 15+ years of progressive Construction Management and leadership experience
  • Excellent ability in researching, planning, developing, organizing, prioritizing and execution skills; excellent analytical and time management skills; detail-oriented and ability to multi-task; able to deal with complex situations and resolve quickly; advanced skills in managing multiple priorities and projects, delegation and follow-through; forward thinking; ability to problem-solve, manage conflict, and make sound and rational decisions while exercising independent judgment
  • Basic MS Office and industry software skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present well and train groups and individuals
  • Excellent ability to lead, influence and motivate; quality and safety focused; able to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of individuals; strong customer and team focus; able to collaborate and lead all team members directly and indirectly with ease; proactive and self-directed with excellent follow-through, coaching and mentoring skills
