Job Description

Summary:

Riggs Distler & Company, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Yard Master to support our Rocky Hill Connecticut Office.

As the Yard Master, you will be responsible for building and equipment maintenance and prioritize, procure and ensure specific quality material is delivered to the operational site(s) to meet the daily project needs.

YOUR ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

A.   Achievement of Material Delivery: 100% of the job

  1. Prepare/manage the facilities expenses as well as capital budget; negotiates bids and contracts for  third-party workers.
  2. Manage/coordinate facility projects and requests with the internal team, as well as third-party construction contractors, and vendors.
  3. Reviews facility plans and daily priorities to plan, organize and ensure material is available to meet each stage of a project for particular delivery timelines.
  4. Administers the selection and procurement of materials, from the systems utilized, to coordinate specific material delivery to applicable yards in alignment with the work package and project stages.
  5. Coordinates with various vendors to ensure smooth high-quality material, logistical flow of materials, and that deliveries and returns are processed in an efficient way.
  6. Assists the Customer, managers and yard team members to address any special situations that arise, including but not limited to obstacles in delivery/returns, ensuring materials are expedited in accordance with daily project deadlines.
  7. Handles the coordination of materials to be returned to the Customer, or effectively disposed of, ensuring all applicable company and environmental policies are followed.
  8. Assist with Fleet Operations
    1. Assist mechanics with simple tasks like running for parts, being a second set of hands helping out, etc.
    2. Point person to receive deliveries when mechanics are not available
  9. Performs transportation of materials as needed to ensure all projects remain on track for timely completion.
  10. Facility maintenance/management.
    1. Perform simple in-house repairs/maintenance on the building
    2. Coordinate contractors for external repair/maintenance needs
    3. Manage and order building supplies (cleaning products, toilet paper, light bulbs, etc.)
    4. Maybe preform internal snow removal needs (cost savings)
  11. Manage and coordinate the usage of the yard space by the different groups.
    1. Plan and organize usage of the yard for maximum efficiency
    2. Coordinate with fleet and each group the ins and outs of vehicles, heavy equipment, mats, dumpsters, Conex boxes/office trailers, etc., requiring storage space in the yard.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education: HS Diploma or GED; will consider equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  2. Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in facility management and construction industry, logistics, material handling or similar background preferred.
  3. Certification(s): Driver’s License with clean driving record required; Class A or B CDL preferred.
  4. Functional Skills: Strong skills in facility planning, contract negotiations, building modifications. Excellent organizational skills; able to plan, prioritize and executive with accuracy; strong sense of urgency; high attention to details; ability to anticipate future needs; excellent time management skills. Able to problem solve and implement effective solutions. Can manage several projects and priorities at the same time. Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in small spaces.
  5. Technology Aptitude/Skills: Proficient in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required; solid construction management software skills preferred. Experience in operating a Forklift / Lull. Experience with repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  6. Language Skills: Solid verbal and written communication skills; highly collaborative for professional interactions with customers and team members
  7. Leadership/Behaviors: Strong safety and customer-focus; supportive of a team and works well with team members from all levels within and outside of the organization; able to approach high-stress situations/tight deadlines in a calm, steady manner; unflappable, thick-skinned. Proven ability to develop and execute action plans that achieve company goals.
