Co-Generation Project — Chester, PA

Riggs Distler was hired to install two new co-generation units at an existing paper products facility in southeastern Pennsylvania. The new unit will allow the client to sell power back to the electrical grid to secure rebates for their electrical usage. In addition to the co-generation units, Riggs Distler’s team installed and connected all control systems. Work included:

  • Installing two co-generation units
  • Conduit installation
  • Cable tray installation
  • Installing new power distribution switchgear and motor control centers
  • Installing and connecting integrated control system
  • Installing all instrumentation panels and associated terminations for fiber-optic cable, shielded instrumentation cable, CAT6 cable, and more.

Challenges Overcome

The biggest challenge our team faced was due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Riggs Distler was on track to bring the project in under the timeline, but the spread of the disease and the resulting mandatory work stoppages forced us to scale back out efforts. For now, Riggs Distler supplies a small crew to perform essential work to keep the existing plant running, only working portions of the project that will supply the existing plant with power, in the event that their aged facilities were to break down. Our staff adhere to strict COVID-19 safety procedures, including social distancing, while on-site, enabling the plant to continue operation and supply its customers with paper products.

Results Delivered

Thanks to the resourcefulness of Riggs Distler’s staff, our team was able to react swiftly to the challenges of COVID-19, overhauling our work procedures so that the client’s facility could remain in operation. We were proud to have the opportunity to demonstrate Riggs Distler’s adaptability, as well as our ability to make short work of complex projects.
