Texas Ave. Substation

Project Overview

Our Substation group completed the Texas Ave. 69kV Upgrade Project in 2023 in Lawrence Township, NJ. This project was a significant endeavor, with a comprehensive scope that included the installation of a variety of critical infrastructure components.

The project involved the installation of 13kV bus steel supports, a 13kV bus system, and a 13kV sheltered aisle switchgear. Additionally, we installed two station light and power transformers, 69kV bus steel supports, a 69kV bus system, seven sixty-foot lightning masts, two 69/13kV transformers, seventeen 69kV double end break disconnect switches, and four 69kV double end break disconnect switches with ground. Other components included six 145kV circuit breakers, twenty-one potential transformers, nine 69kV surge arresters, two sump pumps with control cabinets, four link boxes, a pre-fabricated control house, fence grounding, yard lighting, receptacles, conduits, power/control cables, and pulling and terminating fiber optic cables.

Challenges Overcome

Despite the fast-paced construction project with critical deadlines and time constraints, the project team utilized coordinated planning to reduce expected overtime and delays, ultimately saving the end user from financial burdens.

This project has earned the NECA 2024 Project Excellence Award for Substation/Interconnection. Presented by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), these awards celebrate projects that exemplify innovation, technical achievement, and excellence in the electrical contracting industry.
