Green Lots Electrical Charging Stations

Located in Maryland

  • Capability
    • Distributed Power, Renewable & Industrial
  • Completion 2019-2022

Project Overview

From 2019 to 2022, we worked with a major gas and electric utility in Maryland to engineer, procure, and construct electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state. The charging stations were installed on government properties as part of the EVsmart Program. The program aims to improve air quality by having 300,000 zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025. All work for this project is being performed under a Masters Services Agreement (MSA).

Key Highlights

Drivers can use the new charging stations through the Green Lots mobile app, and a typical electrical vehicle driver spending one dollar at a charger can expect to gain approximately 20 miles in range.

Project Scope of Work Included:

  • Engineering and Procurement
  • Drawings
  • Permits
  • Foundation Preparation
  • Installation of Charging Stations
  • Commissioning and Start-up

Challenges and Results

Under our MSA, we performed charging station installations at small sites throughout the state. Since the stations were located on government property, government institutions needed to apply to be a host. Each installation is site-specific, and preliminary site visits needed to be performed to determine logistics before our Heavy Industrial and Renewables teams could engineer and design each installation. These designs then needed to be approved by the client before the charging station was installed. While the volume of small-site designs presented challenges, our back-office staff developed innovative processes to expedite the work. The technology we worked with was cutting edge, and our staff had the specialized training to ensure each charging station was developed swiftly. Basing operations out of our Dundalk office, our crews easily mobilized to any part of the state.

As a result, electric vehicle usage was promoted by making it easier for owners to locate charging stations for their car, ultimately helping to reduce emissions and support environmental sustainability in Maryland.
