Hydrogen Gas Plant

Located in Delaware

  • Capability
    • Distributed Power, Renewable & Industrial
  • Completion 2019–2020

Project Overview

Our workforce of 75 people provided extensive heavy civil, mechanical, and instrumentation services to support the construction of a gas plant in Delaware that became an integral part of the refining process.

Explore Project Details

Project Scope of Work Included:

Heavy Civil

  • Installation of E&S Controls, Concrete Foundations, Stormwater & Drainage Systems, Fire Water System, and Grounding
  • Performing Excavations and Structural Backfilling
  • Placing Concrete with Anchor-Bolt Embeds Set to Precision Location

Mechanical/Electrical

  • Setting Plant Equipment: Drums, Coolers, Pipe Racks, Vessels, Pumps, and Skids
  • Assembly of Cooling Tower, Flare Stack, & Reformer Heater
  • Setting, Alignment, & Grouting of Hydrogen Compressor
  • Installation of Piping Systems, Steel & Supports
  • Installation of Instrumentation and Controls
  • Hydrostatic Testing, Pre-Commissioning, & Commissioning of Entire Plant

Challenges and Results

This project presented several challenges, including adhering to a tight schedule and delayed equipment deliveries. To meet the schedule, our team carefully organized the work and constantly coordinated with teams. To improve efficiency and speed, we also implemented new construction techniques. In addition, to overcome equipment delays, our team accommodated all requests for overtime and out-of-scope rework.

Once completed, the new hydrogen plant reduced the amount of sulfur generated by the combustion of crude oil at the refinery, allowing the client to operate cleanly and meet global limits for sulfur production instituted by the International Maritime Organization. Through careful tracking and project management, we cut costs and saved time without sacrificing worksite safety or the quality of our work.
