Project Overview

In 2017, we were the prime contractor charged with installing a 20MWdc photovoltaic solar system to deliver green power to the residents of central New Jersey. The energy generated by the system was exported into the local electric grid to earn solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) for the client.

Challenges and Results

Due to the presence of American Bald Eagle nests in the project area, our team coordinated closely with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. To allow the project to proceed as scheduled while avoiding potential effects to the protected species, combiner boxes, MV feeders, and other system infrastructure were moved outside of the nesting areas so that the network could be installed and energized before the project deadline. Once the eagles left their nests, our team was able to install the remaining racking and modules and connect strings to the combiners.

By helping to redesign the original project plans, we were able to complete the installation and energize 17MW of the 20MW capacity prior to the project deadline. The remaining 3MW was installed in May and June of 2017. We provided all the necessary project services in-house. The solar array is now online, producing 20MW of clean energy that powers approximately 2,100 homes in the Pemberton area every year.
