Riggs Distler Joins Thousands to Support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

On Saturday, September 28th, 2019, Riggs Distler participated in the Philadelphia region’s St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer. Considering it was our first year taking part as a team, the outpouring of support and participation was beyond expectations. Our group was made up of over 70 employees as well as their friends and families. In just over a month’s time, our team members managed to fundraise $15,000.00+ for the cause, an impressive 50% more than our goal of $10,000.00 (and making us Philadelphia’s 2nd Top Fundraiser). To put that in perspective, it’s enough money to run the St. Jude Blood Donor Center for an entire week!

Riggs Distler chose to support the St. Jude Walk/Run to ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. In addition:

Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80%

  • St. Jude’s founder believed that “no child should die in the dawn of life.” They won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.

Saving children everywhere

  • St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

St. Jude creates more clinical trials for childhood cancer than anyone else

  • St. Jude turns laboratory discoveries into lifesaving treatments every day

While we did an awesome job considering this was our first year participating, I learned a lot about how to make this event even more successful along the way. I’m already looking forward to next year’s walk; I know we’ll accomplish even more!
